praveen187 Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Serious differences continued to dog the Mahakutami even after the last day for withdrawal of nominations. The TDP leaders who had filed nominations in seats given to the TRS did not withdraw their candidature and neither did CPM who had filed papers in seats allocated to the TDP. These candidates will therefore continue to be in the fray, which will now be termed friendly contests. All the same, the loss of some votes to the Mahakutami is certain. Since many of the late candidacies of TDP leaders were quite clearly with the active encouragement of the party leadership, their nonwithdrawal is also deemed to be with the consent of the party bosses. This indicates a lack of faith in the TDP that the TRS candidates have the wherewithal to win the vote against the Congress. The real surprise of the day was the CPM’s steadfast refusal to concede any ground to the TDP. In Warangal, Nalgonda and Rangareddy districts, the party has not withdrawn its candidates against TDP and TRS candiates. Vis a vis the TDP, the CPM is in agreement over 13 seats and in contest over three more. These three include Karwan and Patancheru. With the TDP and the CPM hanging tough on not withdrawing rival candidacies, the TRS stayed put in Husnabad, with Capt Lakshmikantha Rao still in the fray against Chaada Venkat Reddy of the CPI. The CPM’s B V Raghavulu was at pains to say that an amicable deal was still possible but with Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao both commencing their campaigns, it can be surmised that the Mahakutami is an alliance in parts. Where there’s a deal there’s a deal, where there isn’t there isn’t.
