This is called “shifting stance as per one’s convenience”.1st and the most important thing that I would like to ask him is , if at this very moment someone raids his house , can he give the guarantee that there would not be one pirated material in his house. Let it be music, movies and even softwares, if no then he loses his right to question the nri’s right there.
2nd, if this is not about eega, where the hell was he and Mr.Suresh babu when pirates were going bonkers with clips and movie recordings of the recent big hit Gabbar Singh? A case of pure selfishness is seen here.
3rd and the most important one which was easily sidelined by Mr.Rajamouli, that there is no copyright violation or plagiarism in any of his movies, he probably assumes or is referring to the statement someone made about Magadheera being copied from Troy/300 which I agree is inspiration. He also quotes in his public statement that the MPAA will check his movie before filing the piracy case or reports against individuals, which is definitely not the case as they have much better and important things to do. His movie plagiarism will come to light only when a studio approaches the MPAA and sues the other party for blatant ripping of content, which again will never happen as they have far and better things to do. Thus affecting only the so called “NRI PIRATES”.
And just so that he knows or people know that his movie Maryada Ramanna was a complete scene to scene rip off of an old movie, which if the studio claims could land Mr. Rajamouli and co in prison and also be charged a bulky amount of compensation. I do not want to comment about his other movies as I would have to waste my time in watching their Hollywood counterparts to make a list of all the plagiarized scenes.No thanks! And music of Keeravani, better not talk about it, people who have a music ear for international and even national music should already be in the know by now.
4th point…I have come to an understanding from what Mr.Rajamouli has been saying off late that he is the epitome of “half- knowledge syndrome”. Seriously , supply and demand? Then the whole case of that supply and demand is affected by innumerable factors , right from the producers to the overseas distributors and exhibitor , theater rents , movie stars , a director’s past track record , weekend’s and so on. It’s not just ” we are quoting a high price , they pay that and charge you guys more supply and demand chani”. Please Mr.Rajamouli, when you contradict yourself in the very next sentence by saying that you do not know why the overseas ticket prices are more than their hollywood counterparts , it’s better if you do not say anything on the matter!
Lastly, I would like to say that this whole rant is about how illogical it is for a big-shot director to make sweeping statements without first knowing the situation of the whole Piracy-Copyright issue. Having a name and public platform , with media on you side and a good number of fans as well , all the while making it look like a sorrow filled statement which has no monetary benefit to self , doesn’t make one RIGHT!

I’d like to offer some support to the director here, not a fan, so there.
1. Your first point about raiding the author’s house is completely hypothetical. I can say the exact same thing about you, does not make it a valid point in an argument on the internet.
2. I am not sure how him trying to speak up against piracy for his film and also making statement about the issue is a problem. Yes, he has not spoken before about this, but who cares? For example, If I were to run into some corrupt official and I make noise, would you say, why did you not make noise when others were getting effected? It’s called capitalism and it works.
3. I do not have much to say here as I know nothing about this issue.
4. Supply and demand always works, all the factors you listed are reasons why it works. If ticket prices are too high, viewers number will go down , the system will fix itself. That’s how the WHOLE world works. Its going to hard to argue this point [img]http://hitorphat.in/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif[/img] .

You shouldn’t go that far with the feelings of audience by mentioning Immigration and Green card cancellation.If there is any capability of understanding your(either You or Suresh babu or Entire TFI) Anguish at certain section of audience, its only NRI’s. Each and every NRI irrespective of B1/B2, F1, L1, H1, GC Holder or Citizen have the capability, patience to understand you and your movies. But at the same time you went way too….far quoting the immigration. One step of NRIs in USA can make the big studios of Hollywood to sue some local production houses of TFI.

I’d love to agree with you Mr. Rajamouli, if film makers in general upheld basic values of producing quality content. If you can permit a frame to frame rip of a German Video game as the title song in Chatrapathi, I’m a little doubtful about the ethical ground you take. I heard the same about Maryada Ramanna too being a rip off.I can understand the anguish that a producer feels on seeing a pirated DVD, but when a movie made with a $250 million budget has a ticket cheaper than a 30 crore budget movie in telugu (which would pale in comparison), I guess everyone can see, who’s greedy here; the producer/distributor or the pirated movie watcher trying to save 10-20 bucks.
Honestly, telugu film industry is not being killed by piracy, but by mediocre technicians, half worthy actors and pretty shabby film makers. Rajamouli, krish, chandrasekhar yeleti, sekhar kammula and a few just stand tall, while the rest are worth for taking Bhojpuri C grade films. TFI needs to gets its act right, before blaming piracy; you are digging your own grave, not someone else.

I agree with your contention about ethical ground. We may question the right of the director to say this, but its hard to argue with the whole piracy issue. The issue of charging higher tickets will sort itself out. The weekend minerva buffet near my house went from 10$ to 16$ in 2 years but has corrected and come back to 11$ in the last 2 months.

This is getting way too much now and its really sick to see someone commenting on piracy in a wrong tone. The way SSR enunciated yesterday’s Anti piracy meet is too arrogant in manner and threatening which is been directed towards fellow NRI individuals in an inexcusable fashion. I’m sure everybody will appreicate their efforts on the film makingv and their collective efforts which they have put together in making this film a enjoyable one. However, the way they have come out against a particular group and shelling out endangering comments will surely jeopardise this film in the LONG run. Also every Telugu film fan would be disappointing to see this coming out from a well acknowledged director. There are thounsands of films releasing every month across the world and I dare nobody would go to an extent of commenting like this. Infact people like Christopher Nolan or James cameron won’t threaten to this magnitude level if their film is pirated. Hope he does get his basics right and concentrate on the film making and Anti-piracy in a good way. Then being threatening and baleful against fellow moviegoers who have made this film a reverential Hit in US. I would request people to boycott his other films if he contuines delivering speech like this next time. From a Telugu Film fan. Towards Peace & Amen!

I am not sure why only NRIs, the one million downloads he is talking about will have at least 50% here in India…at least 10 to 20 people whom I know would have downloaded it here in India!The only thing I do not like about TFI people talking abt piracy is, now SSR talks about it and tomorrow it will be Dil Raju when his film releases..that’s all..No collective effort!
