Pandyas are strict vaishnavites(followers of lord vishnu) and cholas are fierce saivites (followers of lord shiva). sivudi ki pray cheste vaishnavites ki nachedi kaadu. vishnu ki pray cheste saivites ki nachadu. ee rendu hindu dynasties ye kaani sivudu followers ki vishnu followers ki eppudu godavalu undevi.

1270 AD

pandyas win the war against the cholas and storms the kingdom of cholas, the then king of chola dynasty in order to save his race sends his successor and subjects to a remote and undisclosed island in the Indian ocean (near to Andaman island and Vietnam) with his faithful minister (also raja guru) and instructs them to hide and wait until a messiah reaches them. Along with them they carry a confiscated statue of the pandyas' kula daivam  (body of a woman and the head of a fish). The chola raja does not want the pandyas to get the statue back.

A pandya warrior tries to follow and spy them and finds it difficult to overcome the hurdles however he makes a map and a journal of his experiences

2009 AD


pratap pothan is an archeologist and is interested in finding the lost civilization of the cholas. He finds the map and the journal and reaches the place where the cholas were believed to be last seen and when he reaches the place he vanishes in to thin air. The Indian archeological association panics and analyzing his last radio transmissions they decides to start a rescue mission.

Reema sen from the Indian archeological association is made the head of the rescue mission, she approaches Andrea a young archeologist working on a excavation in a desert in Rajasthan.  Andrea is none other than the only daughter of Pratatap Pothan. Reema sen carries the news of his disappearance and considering Andrea's knowledge on the subject and her understanding of the journal (her father had discussed about the journal with her lot of times) reema insists that she assists the search and rescue mission which is funded and directed by a central minister.

They start the mission from chennai port with a group of army personnel under Major Ravi's guidance and a group of porters headed by karthi. Karthi flirts with both the andrea and reema but finds andrea interesting. They reach the shores of Vietnam and hire a tamil speaking guide and a hesitant group of Vietnamese fisherman to take them to the fabled island of no return . On the way to island the local fisherman fearing the curse  desert the group and jump in to the water leaving behind a couple of boats. Reema orders karthi's men to take over the unmanned boats and steer toward the island. As they reach the shores of the cursed island they find themselves attacked by horrifying sea creatures. loosing a lot of men to these weird creatures,the lead group along with the guide and a few army personnel reach a village inhabited by a group of cannibals painted in all black. They meet the chief of the village with inquires about the lost archeology professor, the chief denies providing them with any information and warns them not to venture into the interiors of the island. Heeding to the warning the tamil speaking guide advices the rescue group to abort the mission and leaves the group alone.

The group camps far from the village and and andrea opens the journal to find the next hurdle in the journey, as the night falls the camp is slowly  surrounded by another group of tribal warriors protecting the island. The warriors attack reduces the size of group to a small number. However the group retaliates and executes all the warriors leaving the general of the tribe to commit suicide. Major Ravi radios the indian govt. for additional forces and ammo. After the additional forces and supplies are air dropped the group ventures into deep jungles of the island. After crossing rivers,dangerous terrain and encountering wild animals they camp near a ruined temple (the same Cambodian temple set can be seen in tomb raider too).

Andrea opens the journal and warns major ravi about the existence of snakes in the area. He ridicules her for making such trivial predictions. Just as the night falls the group is attacked by immeasurable number of snakes making karthi, andrea and reema run for their lives. They are now estranged from the group and completely lost in jungle.Though karthi discourages Andrea, Reema insists that they should not turn back and in any cost find the professor.

After walking a lot of miles in the jungle with no food to eat and energy to spare they hit a vast desert, the scorching heat,hunger and deteriorating body fluid levels take a heavy toll . Not so far away the army recuperates and starts following the trail. Karthi, Andrea and Reema reaching the end of desert see large stone structures ahead (something resembling the famous Stonehenge in UK )

Excited they run towards the Stonehenge but the sand starts sinking as they put their steps forward, with no idea on how to reach the henge with out sinking into the quicksand they freeze. Andrea remembers a quote from the journal, which explains the only way to reach the stonehenge is to run on the shadow casts of the large stone structures during sunset and cross the stonehenge during the next sunrise. This scene is inspired from the movie Mackenna's Gold, where Mackenna and his group reach a cave following the shadow of spider rock

After crossing the Stonehenge and informing Major Ravi and his men how to cross the Henge, Karthi with andrea and reema reach the deserted chola village and find the remains of cholas empire along with gold and artifacts.

Hungry and thirsty they kill a camel found in the village and eat its raw meat. They get high (i do not know if one can get high eating camel meat ) and wander around the village singing and seducing each other, all of a sudden they hear some magical chants that drives them crazy and turn them into zombies. Trying to kill each other they run away from the village. A old man or should i say a sorcerer finds them running and approaches them to removes the spell casted on them. In this process the old man is shocked to find tattoo of a prowling tiger on karthi's back.

Major Ravi losses all his men to the quicksand and wanders in desert alone.

the sorcerer (old man) takes the king to show him the captives (karthi reema and andrea) and specially the tiger tattoo on karthi's back. Parthipan in awe and shock slits the tattoo with his word. Karthi does not respond in pain or anger because his energy levels are sapped and he is in almost a state of vegetation (an ancient manuscripts handed over to cholas by their ancestors shows their messiah will have tattoo of a prowling tiger)

The king find it hard to believe that karthi is the messiah they are waiting for, he laughs at his state and orders for execution of karthi,reema and andrea. The sorcerer makes arrangements for the execution, during the process of execution reema casts a magic spell paralyzing the sorcerer and flashes her naked back to the king and the subjects. To the shock of the king and others she has a tattoo of a prowling tiger (the tiger is tattooed diagonally on her back with tail near left shoulder and head pointing to the right hip)

She tries to convince the king that she is the one cholas have been waiting for and she is here to take them back to their motherland.She also tells him that the arrangements are to be made immediately for their departure which is just a few days away.The king seems to believe her but hesitates to act immediately. that night when Reema is shown wearing the traditional dress and jewelery of the cholas, a shocking relevance is made to the viewers, reema is not what she claims, she, major ravi and central minister who funded the whole mission are none other than the direct descendants of the pandya rajas and she is here to take the kula daivam statue back to her family and to avenge the cholas for confiscating their statute. She plans to seduce parthipan (the king) and sleep with him in order to make him believe her blindly. She under goes a virginity test and seduces, sleeps with the king. The king falls in to the trap and also orders karthi to be taken as a slave. Andrea and Karthi find the missing archeologist pratap pothan as a prisoner with cholas. Karthi wins the heart of the king by fighting a giant warrior gladiator style with a little divine intervention. I wonder how this cave dwelling people managed to construct a Colosseum like sports arena inside a cave. Winning the kings heart, karthi develops a good relation with the locals. He also finds them innocent and very lovable. Andrea wishes to meet the king to reveal that reema has some other plans and not to put a blind trust in reema. As Andrea approaches the king, he thinks she is interested in having sex with him and orders a virginity test. After hearing what andrea has to say, the king dismisses her arguements as baseless and continues to trust reema.

Reema on the other side continues to search the cave for the lost idol of their kula daivam and succeeds in finding it. She then poisons the only water source of the people dwelling in the cave and sends a local to deliver message to major ravi who is still alive and wandering aimlessly in the desert. This message reveals the location of cholas to Ravi, while Reema is planning an attack, the king has made arrangements for the departure, An elderly man beheads himself to bring good luck to his people who are about to take a long journey to home. Then a guard who is on duty guarding the cave spots a lot of people rushing towards the cave. He informs the king of the same and then the people start seeing karthi as a betrayer. As he is being bashed badly in front of the king, reema escapes from the cave and heads towards ravi's people. The sorcerer having had visions of the entire events in his sleep, wakes up and sees the king.

The king now remembers the ancient manuscript shows a real messiah will have a tattoo of a prowling tiger with its head pointed towards the left shoulder and its tail towards the right hip. He realizes that karthi is real messiah, the one who saves his race. (note, the tattoo reema had was diagonally in reverse, she faked it to gain king's trust. she probably knows that cholas are waiting for a messiah with a tiger tattoo from her family and ancestors)

The king then calls karthi and asks for his help in fighting the people gathered outside the cave. He extends his support and a war begins with ravi and reema on the heavily armed pandya's side and parthipan(king) and karthi on chola's side. As the war progresses, cholas with help of karthi's knowledge start to show an upper hand fighting pandyas equipped with modern arms before most of chola men die from water poisoning. As the war reaches an end, the pandyas crumble the cholas, leaving only few chola men, women and children alive. Pandyas capture the king, karthi alive and molest their women and children. The king dies in an attempt to save his people in captivity and karthi flees away from pandyas with the only son of the chola king and thereby saving the cholas race.    

The ending scene justifies the title of the movie and preserves the whole essence of the story

The director conceived a story that is beyond anyone's imagination but was not able to execute a few scenes properly on to the celluloid. This story deserves Hollywood's finesse, treatment and execution
