First of all I try to avoid last minute lane changes when taking an exit....if you are a new driver give yourself at least 1 mile on freeways. If you check your side mirrors every 8-10 seconds and also have a brief idea of the cars surrounding you (like color of the sedan, An SUV, Pickup truck)..change lane once that vehicle crosses by(This always works for me).
