Sagar comes down to Assembly

After being battered by TRS in Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency, senior BJP leader Ch Vidyasagar Rao has changed his mind and is contesting from Vemulawada assembly constituency.

The former union minister lost to KCR very badly and had given up the hope of Lok Sabha. His native Metpalli seat being erased he opted for Vemulawada and is expected to give a tough fight to his opponents.

Ironically TDP fielded his nephew Ch Ramesh, whose father Ch Rajeshwara Rao had vacated the neighbouring Sircilla seat that went to TRS in seat sharing adjustment. It is a clash of two brothers who were brought up in diametrically opposing ideologies. Ch Rajeshwara Rao was with CPI for the best part of his life and switched to TDP during 2004 polls and won Sircilla.

Vidyasagara Rao on the other hand was always on the Hindutva plank and won the Metpalli assembly and Karimnagar Lok Sabha on BJP ticket. He is in fray as BJP nominee while Rajeshwara Rao’s son is contesting on TDP ticket.

Congress fielded Adi Srinivas to give a triangular dimension to the contest. While  Chennamaneni family name would in the main part of the contest, Congress would be trying hard to project its developmental activities taken up during the past five years.

The main fight would be between the members of the Chennamaneni family and BJP and TDP would be battling it out in the April 16 election. Congress and five others in fray could hardly face the uncle-nephew combination, unless voters think otherwise and resolve to reject dynasty politics.

The new constituency named after the temple town has the presence of left wing extremists and right wing supporters as well. It remains to be seen the results of the  ideological fight, though diluted, at the hustings.
