Jagan: Making waves beyond Kadapa

There is every reason for the opposition parties to gang up and launch a diatribe against youngster YS Jaganmohan Reddy as his popularity ratings had shot up beyond the comprehension of TDP leaders.

The onslaught started ten years ago foisting false cases and mudslinging, which boomeranged on the opposition parties and Jagan came out clean and became popular, not because of the negative publicity he received but due to his hard work and proper grooming in the political arena.

Contesting Kadapa Lok Sabha seat on Congress ticket, which was won by the party by his uncle by a margin of over 1.31 lakh votes in 2004, Jagan Mohan Reddy is not just confined to his constituency but has set his sight far and wide.

With winning Kadapa reduced to a just formality, Jagan has been touring the entire Rayalaseema region drawing huge crowds. He started with Ananthapur where he matchless and in Chittoor too he started making waves. He entered Kuppam, the constituency of his father’s bete noire N Chandrababu Naidu and had the same crowd.

Jagan having grown as an industrialist in power plants among other sectors, has made a mark in media by launching Sakshi Telugu daily which took on the mighty daily which was earlier enjoying the number one status.

Not only the numero uno status of the other daily is at threat, but it is under constant check and could not wag its tail any more. Pre-Sakshi days, the daily used to set the agenda for State, often for selfish gains as in the case of prohibition and blatantly publish and repeat lies, distort facts and show to the people only one side of the coin which is in favour of the party it promotes.

Things changed drastically, after initial rebuts emotional and charged up editorials and news stories. Things have fallen in place and Jagan with his team in Sakshi has shown to the world the other side of the coin. Every thing in place, still the battle continues.

Visual media too had a great impact on the electorate in earlier days with only two or three channels. The script is the same as in print media. Jagan tackled the issue in his own style and started Sakshi TV channel to show the version which was being suppressed earlier.

There could be many other reasons, why the Opposition was vehemently trying to defame Jagan but things did not go their way as his entry into politics became a certainty as certain as his victory from Kadapa this time.

The district which had 11 constituencies in 2004 is now reduced to 10 in delimitation. Congress won nine of the eleven assembly segments that can speak of the huge margin to the Lok Sabha candidate and this time it could be no different.

Chief Minister YS Rajsekhar Reddy is contesting from his home turf Pulivedula and the other six segments are expected to give him a rousing reception, margin would remain the point of discussion.  While Prodduturu MLA N Varadarajula Reddy is heading for a double hat-trick, the situation in Kamalapur is interesting. The Congress candidate G Veerasiva Reddy contested the previous election on a TDP ticket while the present TDP nominee P Narasimha Reddy contested as Congress candidate. The constituency was earlier held MV Mysoora Reddy, who switched over to his “Big Boss” gang.

Rapid industrialisaton, completion of irrigation projects and setting up quality educational institutions speak of the development of the area.
