ofcourse, neither Hinduism or Islam is followed as envisioned by the highest ideals of these two religions..

 

I  think Islam is closer to being Ideal because it is forced on its people by various means..

 

Hinduism, on the other hand, cleverly assigned separate ideals for different varnas to make it simpler and free for the man/caste to choose its varna and realise those ideals.

 

Now the world has changed.. It may seem Islam is simpler, easily accessible god, simpler rituals. 

 

especially since the caste system has broken down, Hinduism seems messy from the outside. But it has an earthy connect with millions of people who live in India, something that can't be explained. It just lives and thrives, without much effort on the part of its followers.
