Srikanth said an enquiry has been ordered into the incident. Revenue and CRDA officials contacted him on Wednesday morning and said it was a "mistake". Revenue officials razed a 7.3 acre banana plantation in the capital region, destroyed a drip irrigation system and removed three borewells belonging to a farmer who had refused to participate in the land pooling scheme for the building of a new capital of Andhra Pradesh. The owner of the banana plantation, Gundapu Rajesh told The Hindu that when four bulldozers were razing his farm on Tuesday evening, he immediately spoke to the Guntur joint collector and the Tullur mandal revenue officer and even sent them SMSs. But the bulldozers did not stop. Revenue and CRDA officials contacted him on Wednesday morning and said it was a “mistake”. AP Capital Region Development Authoirty (CRDA) commissioner N. Srikanth said an enquiry has been ordered into the incident. According to a preliminary report, it was a case of mistaken identity. CRDA officials would speak to the farmer and the issue would be resolved amicably, he said. Mr Rajesh has filed a complaint in the Tullur police station, asking the police to book a criminal trespass case against the officials and initiate action as per law. Police noted down the details and gave the farmer an acknowledgment. Mr Rajesh is demanding compensation of Rs 20 lakh, the estimated cost of the standing crop, drip irrigation equipment and three borewells. Mr Rajesh was one among the many farmers who filed objection to land pooling. Capital Region Farmers Federation president Mallela Seshagiri Rao condemned the action. He said there was very little chance of the act being a mistake. The piece of land is very close to spot where the foundation stone for Amaravati was laid and this was known to all officials, he said. sorry for them
