ARYA Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 LVPEI moots advanced research centre in city LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) has decided to establish an advanced eye research and education centre in the city. The premier eye institute will approach the Andhra Pradesh Government for allotment of 10 acres in the Health City. LVPEI was the first to set up its campus in the Health City after it was allotted five acres near Hanumanthawaka junction. “Now we want to go for a world-class centre near our campus in the city. We will submit a formal proposal shortly and hope the government will respond positively,” LVPEI founder G.N. Rao told The Hindu. The centre will undertake research and development activity, clinical trials and impart education to the eye specialists, paramedics and administrative officials. It will be an ultra modern campus with high-end audio visual links to conduct classes on video conference and other modes. Dr. Rao said the institute would invest Rs.10 crore to Rs.15 crore. Later it might increase to Rs.200 crore when it becomes fully operational. He said establishment of such an advanced institute of research in Vizag would enhance the brand value of the city. The institute will also encourage student, faculty and experts exchange programmes by tying up with advanced eye care institutes from all over the world. High incidence of eye ailments and vision impairment in India necessitates the establishment of a world-class centre of excellence to undertake research to fight serious eye problems.
