‘Vizag will do us all proud’

The Government would take all steps to develop the city as an industrial, financial, educational, health and tourism hub and turn it into a city to be proud of, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said. Briefing the media here on Thursday after the maiden Cabinet meeting held at the Andhra University Executive Council Committee Hall, he said his Government was keen on development of the city.

He said funds would be sanctioned for making Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences functional. In the first phase it would be a 200-bed hospital and its expansion would be taken up in due course. Noting that pollution was a major issue, he said steps would be taken to control it. The city would be made a IT and hardware-producing hub.

The Centre had already agreed in principle to set up a Petroleum University here and steps would be taken to establish a Maritime University here. A tribal university would also be established here, he said. The city was well suited for establishing cinema industry and steps would be taken to encourage the development of the industry here, he added.

Agreeing that the city was best suited for setting up the headquarters of the proposed new railway zone, he said that his Government would take up the issue with the Centre.
