ARYA Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 GVMC moots night bazaar on Beach Road in Vizag VISAKHAPATNAM: In a move aimed at spicing up the night life of the Port City, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is mulling setting up a night bazaar on Beach Road in the city. GVMC commissioner MV Satyanarayana visited a site opposite Nova East Point House on Beach Road on Friday to examine the feasibility of setting up the night bazaar there and directed the civic officials to prepare an action plan for the project, a GVMC release said. "GVMC is planning setting up restaurants, eateries and small shops selling various goods of interest to tourists during odd hours. The project is currently at a preliminary stage. If the project turns into a reality, people can access shops and eateries up to 2am," Satyanarayana told TOI. According to GVMC sources, while Bangalore allows restaurants to open till 1 am, such a move can also make Vizag a vibrant tourist venue. "Lot of people frequent the Beach Road during the night hours, many of them even with their families. But, usually by that time all restaurants and other eateries are closed. So this can be a good revenue earner as well as a booster for the city's tourist-friendly image," said a senior GVMC official.
