thedarkknight Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 Today is the birth anniversary of 2 great freedom fighters, Lokamanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Chandrashekar Azad, both great sons of Bharat Chandrashekar Azad was born on this date in 1906, at Unnao in UP, real name was Chandrashekar Sitaram Tiwari. Chandrashkekar Azad grew up in the tribal area of Bhawra, where he learnt archery from his school mates. His mother Jagrani Devi wanted him to be a Sanskrit Scholar, and he was sent to Kashi Vidyapeeth for this #ChandraShekarAzad At age of 14, he took part in the Non Cooperation movement called by Gandhi, when he was still a student #ChandrashekarAzad\ He was arrested for his role in the Non Cooperation movement, where he gave his name as Azad before the magistrate #ChandrashekarAzad When the magistrate asked him his name, he gave it as Azad, father's name as Swatantra, that was when he became #ChandrashekarAzad In 1922, Gandhi when Gandhi called off the Non Cooperation movement, after Chauri Chaura, #ChandrashekarAzad was among those hurt by it. He resolved to bring freedom to India by any means and that was when he went on the revolutionary path #ChandrashekarAzad Another young revolutionary Pranvesh Chatterji introduced him to Ram Prasad Bismil, founder of the HRA, #ChandrashekarAzad ChandrashekharAzad was impressed by the HRA's Goal of an independent India with equal rights to all and no discrimination of caste,creed. Bismil was impressed by #ChandrashekarAzad's honesty, dedication to cause of freedom, and admitted him to HRA. ChandrashekarAzad was soon an active member of HRA, and began to collect funds for the organization, attacking banks, Govt institutions. Shahjahanpur was the base from where #ChandrashekarAzad planned and executed his revolutionary activities. He daily practiced shooting in the jungles of Orcha near to Jhansi along with his other friends #ChandrashekharAzad Being an expert marksman, #ChandrashekharAzad trained the others too in shooting. Assuming the alias of Pandit Harishankar Brahmachari, he also taught the kids in nearby villages. #ChandrashekharAzad He was popular among residents of Dhimarpura village as Pandit Harishankar, the village has been renamed as Azadpur in his honor.
