mtkr
Jitu Rai Wins Gold in 50m Pistol, Gurpal Singh Takes Silver Shooters Jitu Rai and Gurpal Singh opened India's medal count on Monday by clinching the men's 50-metre pistol gold and silver, respectively in the finals of the Commonwealth Games at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre here. It was once again shooting that brought India more laurels as the duo bagged the country's 10th and 11th medals from the discipline at the 2014 Games. India are now placed fourth in the standings behind Australia, England and Scotland with a total of 24 medals -- 7 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze. Armyman Rai won the gold in style setting a Finals Games Record (FGR) collecting a total of 194.1 points. Earlier, Rai also broke the Commonwealth Games record in the qualifiers where he again topped, amassing 562 points, a sizeable 15 points ahead of Englishman Kristian Callaghan in second. In the finals, the 26-year-old Rai, who hails from Lucknow, took off brilliantly with 29.7 points in the first round and kept his lead till the end. With 187.2 points, Gurpal, who hails from Bathinda, came in second ahead of Australia's Daniel Repacholi, who clinched the bronze with 166.6 points. Repacholi had won the men's 10m air pistol gold last week. Gurpal had finished sixth in the qualifiers with 538 points.

mtkr
Gagan Narang Settles for Silver in 50m Rifle Prone Indian shooters continued to bring home more medals as Gagan Narang won the country's third medal on Monday clinching the men's 50-metre rifle prone silver at the Commonwealth Games here. Earlier in the day, Indians Jitu Rai and Gurpal Singh won gold and silver, respectively, in the men's 50-metre pistol finals at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre. Narang was in the fight right till the very end but Australian veteran Warren Potent was a tad better than the Indian. Eventually the Australian took the gold and Narang -- who has bagged eight CWG gold medals -- had to settle for the silver. England's Kenneth Parr won the bronze. The 52-year-old Potent won the yellow metal in style as he set the Finals Games Record (FGR) with a final score of 204.3 points. Narang, who also won the 2012 London Olympic bronze in 10m air rifle, fought hard till the very end but had to give in with a score of 203.6 points. Parr finished third with 182. This is the Hyderabadi's ninth medal at the Commonwealth Games and his first silver. The 31-year-old won four golds in 2006 Melbourne and four more golds in 2010 at home in Delhi. This is India's 12th medal from the discipline at the 2014 Glasgow Games. India are now placed fourth in the standings behind Australia, England and Scotland with a total of 25 medals -- 7 gold, 11 silver and 7 bronze.
