Charmme & ManjulaKavya's Diary is foremost, a remake of the 1992 film “The hand that rocks the cradle.” Even the poster is a direct lift from the original. Next, despite the scene by scene copy, the film manages to hold the audience's interest and keeps them glued till the very end. Dr Kiran (Dr Bharat Reddy), a gynecologist misbehaves with his patients and a pregnant Pooja (Manjula) brings the issue out in the open. As the news about his malpractice flashes on the TV channels, the doctor unable to face the ignominy commits suicide. His wife suffers a miscarriage and vows to wreak vengeance on the first person who reported the abuse against her deceased husband.

She enters the house as a nanny, wins everyone's heart and embarks on a journey to take over Pooja's son and family. The baby refuses the mother's feed, the xxx is found dead, Pooja's brother-in-law is bumped off and many other unfortunate events unfold leaving Pooja and her husband puzzled. The finale is expected, despite the clichéd story the film is not implausible, ensemble performance is significant and riveting.

Charmme shines as a woman who goes ballistic at the loss of her husband and Manjula's contribution to the movie is significant and strong and she lends an element of believability to the role. Shashank slips yet into another versatile character easily and Dr Bharat appears for a short while. He is okay but could have been more sinister in expression. The kid does a commendable job.

The last forty five minutes has many great moments and rapidly moves ahead providing the chills and thrills and the director succeeds in putting the elements together. The film doesn't scare you overtly but will leave images that will haunt you, like Pooja's vulnerable face or Charmme's vengeful behavior, even after you leave the theatre. Watch Kavya's diary to see how a woman bonds, destroys and dies….
