US blacks are not as poor as poorest people in India. they have access to public schools, great infrastructure, etc. And even though there's no govt mandated reservation in the US, almost all schools follow informal diversity strategies to make sure the classroom represents as much as possible the local population's diversity. India lo govt ae chepthondi that almost 30% of the country lives on less than 33rs per day. How many upper caste people do you think are in that 30%? some percentage very close to zero. Talk about merit when all castes are atleast equal. yes, I will go to any doctor who holds an MBBS. that a dalit who got 50% in his intermediate and secured an MBBS seat is not fit to be a doctor is total bunkum.

The upper class don't need/care about Hindutva. The confused ones in the middle will wither away in time towards the most profitable ideology. conclusion: There's no way other way to grow Hindutva, than giving/increasing reservation for the dalits/STs in India.

Not sure about the all india figure, but Madras Medical College has approx. 15% of students who repeat years in medical colleges, and very few of them are dalits (based on personal observation of a friend of mine who did MBBS there in the 2000s) what about the other half? It may be interesting that even for dalits, the cut off is around 92%, so the ones that make it are no pushovers. There's another aspect of reservation, where rich dalits corner all the seats. But that is not upper castes' business to condemn.

India needs that kind of 70, 80% tax on the rich to achieve anywhere close to that kind of equality.
