VizagRocks Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 Clear case of civil/criminal defamation with a malicious intention. In such cases the publication could be stopped (By the Court) for a Week to a Month depending the severity of defamation plus compensation for damages. Smita sent them notices asking for a public apology on the main page. I think an apology will be the end of it.
sattipandu Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 every public figure is open to criticism. that's what their position demands. She can easily brush them aside. do you even think she has a case against Outlook? pretty sure the case will go nowhere. They'll simply write that it was political satire - which it was, for the most part. I'm not even attacking her. I'm just attacking silly arguments of her defenders. i believe she has a case to some degree may be to an extent that Outlook magazine is forced to tender an apology may be that is all she is after, who knows. when you say "She can easily brush them aside" are you implying she has to do what you opine is the correct thing to do or what she feels? arguing that she could have not cared, she should take all these in stride , its all her perception. who are u and me to say what she should do and shouldnt.

Janaki Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 you know how cartoons are right? just like every other art form, they exaggerate for effect. The dress was okay. nothing vulgar about it. what the author insinuated was sexist, but for the most part, he/she was not pointing fingers at her. People should understand that she is young and she is like any other Indian women who likes to dress in a colourful sarees. She is responsible and trying her best to bring awareness in women and poor people through some very good programmes like Amma lalana, fund your city.

Not reacting to her reaction. obviously she can do what she wants. but I don't think she's that powerless that she needs this outpouring of support from social media, when the piece itself is largely harmless. If it was really vile, then that's a different issue.
