aadwi Posted July 17, 2015 Author Report Posted July 17, 2015 Sand art expo a big draw #GodavariPushkaralu Artists Subala Mahapatra, Harikrishna carve art pieces Sand artists Subala Mahapatra of Bhubaneswar and G. Harikrishna of Srikakulam carved sculptures of gods and goddesses, miniature temples and logo of the ‘Godavari Maha Pushkaralu-2015’ using sand at the Irrigation Department’s sand reach. Mr. Subala came along with his five students, while Mr. Harikrishna brought 10 members to assist him. “The response from the public is quite encouraging. But, stray dogs are trying their best to climb on to the sculptures during the nighttimes,” says Mr. Sabala, who arrived here last week and took three days time to carve out five sculptures. The gallery with floodlights is providing perfect view of the works from different dimensions. “We are on the job of sprinkling water continuously on these art pieces. This is the only solution to protect them from getting dried up,” says Mr. Harikrishna. “The shell life is only three to four days per piece. Afterwards, it lasts its freshness. That is why, we are planning to replace the works new ones at every four days. The AP Tourism is providing us the themes,” says Mr. Sabala. The visitors are busily taking photographs and selfies at the gallery and the organisers arranged a couple of stalls to sell wooden artefacts and laceworks. “There are a very few people in our area who knows this art. Though we have a good number of beaches, we don’t have many artists in this field,” says, K. Adinarayana, an enthusiastic artist from Narasapuram.
