If you are helping a cause such as eradication of diseases, or poverty, you need to publicize because one person cannot achieve it and by publicizing it, you are potentially inviting others to join the cause. So you say, a calamity doesn't really motivate people to chip in.. All we require is a celebrity name to do the needful..
