Plus quite a few FT people when they got laid off came running with their pants down asking for a consultancy to transfer their visa. This happened with people I know who are from reputed universities and working as FTs in reputed firms with 130k+ pay packages. So don't think any job is ever safe, esp. if you are on a H1B visa. 

If you are worth it doesn't matter. You lose a job today and you earn somewhere else tomorrow it all depends on how you play your cards right.

Yeah and you know there's ZERO grace period on H1B once you lose your job right. There's no 15 day or 30 day grace period to switch your status or find a new job, there's a ZERO day grace period, PERIOD. 

 

It's upto the mercy of the CBT officer to determine whether you are technically out of status the day you lose your job, although most of them might show some leniency what if you encounter someone that shows ZERO tolerance about this issue? Also I know people on FTs that have been let go without a 2 week notice etc.

There might be ZERO grace period on H1B people once you lose it but the most of the companies give you atleast 15 day notice when you are laid off even if there is no grace period you travel to India so what? you go and reapply to other companies. I have seen people who left to India and came back as I said earlier if you are worth these things doesn't matter. 

I know people in FT jobs from "thupel" universities that are working for 130+ pay packets. So their below average university didn't affect their job prospects. Your university helps only so much in helping you get a job, if anything it's just a foot in the door. Beyond that it's your ability, talent, PR skills etc

Yeah to a large extent won't matter much. Work related skills, contacts, luck etc matter more.
