Application for registration as an Overseas Citizen of India

under section 7A of the Citizenship Act,1955

In India to the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO), Mumbai,
Kolkata, Delhi, Amritsar ,Chennai or Under Secretary, OCI Cell, Citizenship
Section, Foreigners Division, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), New Delhi.
Outside India, to the Indian Mission/ Post having jurisdiction over the country
of which the applicant is a citizen or if he/she is not living in the country of
his/her citizenship, to the Indian Mission/ Post having jurisdiction over the
country of which the applicant is ordinarily resident.

Now ckgs is handling it. they will update you in every step and visit thier website. Koncham confusion ga untundhi initially after reading it 2 or 3 times you will get it. google it how to upload thumb impression and photo into Indian website, it little tircky and you may need to download some photo editing software. Indian govt in Delhi took 7 weeks for me to process it and another 3 or 4 weeks in USA. so 3 month anuko whole process. good thing is you dont need to send your child passport to them untill OCI get approved and reach USA.

Thanks, Was reading through the process on their website and found it convoluted, hence the post. Will try to read it again.

no more PIO. now only OCI..PIO people can upgrade to OCI for free as of now.

how useful /different is oci compared to visiting visa to India. 

Visiting visa 10 yrs multiple entry with each entry not to exceed 180 days kada... N visa process takes not more than 10 business days while oci process takes about 2-3 months.

Oci lo em untaay benefits...
