I feel for the current crop of tennis players. ATP is stuck with promoting the same top 4-5 players. That is why, the 'Fedal' thingie is going to played up to a level never seen before. Also, there aren't marketable players with unique styles of play like in the 90s, and even 2000s. They should improvise with different surfaces in tennis. Quote

Not quite the same class as Kuerten. Sergi Bruguera was much better, he was a clay monster. It is by defeating him that Kuerten won his first Roland Garros title. Interesting thing about Alberto Berasategui is that he had an extreme western grip on his forehand, so much so that he didn't have a backhand he had an inverted forehand for a backhand. Still managed to get to the French Open final in 1994 and got defeated by Sergi Bruguera. As for Petr Korda he won one Australian Open but was later found to have taken performance enhancing drugs and banned from tennis. Quote

Yes. Murray takes tennis to another level. Federer's time has passed. don't say, compare number of grand slams. I don't care. If I did, I wouldn't be supporting players who hardly reach 4th round of a GS. Quote

They should improvise with different surfaces in tennis. The pretty much killed it when they made the surfaces homogenous. Which is why I rate Sampras as the best ever grass court player, he was a monster on grass and fast courts. Not quite the same when playing on slow clay courts. Starting in early 2000s the courts have been slowed down to almost the same speed on all surfaces, and the weight of the ball has also been reduced thereby creating more bounce and reducing the speed of it after it bounces, even on a surface like grass. That pretty much made sure tennis becomes boring, no contrast of styles and baseline bashers slugging it out from the back court. Quote

Murray is a mental midget however, he's better off as long as he's with Ivan Lendl but once Lendl goes away Murray gets to being a mental midget again. He had a superior H2H against Federer till Federer figured it out and it was mostly all mental. I don't care as much about the GS titles count, but Murray is an above average player in my opinion not so much a great one. I will bet that Wawrinka will go up on Murray's GS title count by the time they both retire. Quote

Only a decade later, did another player like him play on tour (Nadal, not with the grip though). Those loopy forehand shots was the creation of Berasategui. He was not fit enough to go with his game. The extreme western grip was truly scary to even watch. Quote

I only mean that Murray reads the game better than any other player, and has almost all shots in his repertoire. I don't think he's a mental midget, he just has too much going on his mind. Lack of clarity at crunch moments. wawrinka is sehwag type. see it, hit it. Quote

He is however very impressive, I think he took Agassi to 5 sets or something at AO(Agassi possibly the greatest AO player before Djokovic came along) and gave him a scare. He wasn't the fittest but yeah he was a clay specialist. Unique style of play, I don't think we can expect to see much of it going ahead. Also, honorable mention to Radek Stepanek. In a time of baseline bashers, he was never afraid of coming to the net and dictating from there. Quote

Lovely guy, and a charming charming game to watch. That second serve of his is a dream for anyone, it was a complete banana swing. Quote
