not only olden days, even in kalikalam they are elastic.......watch some natural disaster videos with high winds, tall trees with no branches bend to almost <45 degrees before the roots come off and they fall off....all this after the roots of the trees have become very weak due to erosion pollution etc, so olden days they used to be more elastic than today.
