Tech Mahindra staffers meet Labour Dept. official

Fighting for rights: Raghava Reddy, a former Tech Mahindra employee, showing the petition submitted to the Labour Department seeking intervention in reinstating the employees who were allegedly forced to resign or issued termination letters, in the city on Thursday.

A small group of employees from IT firm Tech Mahindra on Thursday submitted a petition to the Labour Department seeking intervention in reinstating the employees who were allegedly forced to resign or issued termination letters.

“This job is the livelihood for most of the employees working in the company for over a decade.

This sudden termination is unimaginable. It would affect their families... wouldn’t be able to manage financial commitments and even their basic needs,” the petition said.

Alleging that the company was terminating several people, the employees also raised questions about the performance assessment and the resultant restructuring.

Joint Commissioner of Labour (Ranga Reddy zone, Hyderabad) R. Chandra Shekaram said six employees of Tech Mahindra met him and submitted a petition on behalf of the Forum for IT Employees (FITE).

They detailed their cases, which varied from termination to resignation.

Since the forum was not a recognised trade union, he advised the employees to file individual petitions detailing specifics of their case.

The forum wanted the Labour Department to initiate conciliation process between the Tech Mahindra management and FITE.

The group from Tech Mahindra was the second from the IT industry to approach the Labour Department in recent weeks.

Earlier, some employees of Cognizant had met the official and highlighted their case — a meeting in which representatives from the company’s management had also participated.
