Forget about old Iraq. Take modern Turkey. It is also in the path of radicalization, thanks to its current leader. But there's a huge difference between Turkey and India. In Turkey, Erdogan had to jail a huge number of doctors, lawyers, writers,etc.. to consolidate his power. He faced severe resistance, and still does. Plenty of turkish writers, have fleed to europe to take refuge.

In India, Modi didn't have to do anything. because elite in India (upper caste hindus) were already bigoted against muslims, and were happy to play to tunes of Modi. so kotthaga ochhina bigotry kaadhu. 

I'm not saying you are bigoted. But that bigotry is around you. you just were unaware of it. even I was unaware of it until I started noticing it after my India trip.
