kakatiya
The colonial-era District Central Jail in Sangareddy, in the Indian state of Telangana, opened its doors to tourists, who can now gain a first-hand experience of prison life by paying a fee of 500 rupees ($7.50 / €6,70) for a day's stay. Footage from the jail in Sangareddy on Wednesday, shows paying visitors languish their 24-hour sentence away in the guest prison. A 24-hour confinement is offered to visiting 'prisoners' under the initiative dubbed 'Feel the Jail' at the 220-year-old jail, which has been converted into a museum. Upon entering the prison compound, the inmates are provided with a prison uniform, a steel meal plate, a mug, bedding and other basic necessities. During their 24-hour confinement, the guest 'prisoners' are allowed to plant saplings and clean their barracks. SOT, Santosh Kumar Roy, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (English): "In this villager concept, an individual has been allowed to stay in the jail for a 24-hour time. He has to pay five hundred rupees Again, he will be staying like a jail inmate. He has to wear the jail inmate dress, he has to follow the routines, day-to-day routines, their lock-up time, unlock-up time. Again, you'll be cut from your Facebook and WhatsApp, so you are entirely cut from the society and world."
