mahesh1
Pedal back home from Hyderabad Metro stations HMR will operate bicycles in association with different organisations to promote eco-friendly cost effective transportation. By AuthorS. Sandeep Kumar | Published: 10th Nov 2017 1:27 am Updated: 10th Nov 2017 2:36 am Hyderabad MetroHMR intends to offer 10,000 bicycles through many bike stations on all the three corridors. Hyderabad: Passengers of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) will have the option of pedaling their way to their destinations from Metro stations. To begin with, those boarding and alighting trains at Miyapur, JNTU, KPHB, Kukatpally and a couple of other stations will have the facility of using cycles from stations. HMR will operate bicycles in association with different organisations to promote eco-friendly, cost effective transportation and to ensure last mile connectivity. There are plans to introduce e-bikes along with the conventional bicycles, as well. With HMR promoting alternate energy usage, there will be charging facilities at the stations to charge the e-bikes. HMR intends to offer 10,000 bicycles through many bike stations on all the three corridors. With the HMR services to be launched on November 28 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, authorities are working on finalising different aspects of the facility. The idea is to scale up the bicycle sharing service gradually after a low key launch. For a start, about 100 bicycles would be offered from limited stations and demand would be assessed, HMR Managing Director NVS Reddy said. The idea behind launching it initially from Miyapur, JNTU and KPHB among others, was to cater to the requirements of software and other corporate employees, he said. In a phased manner, the service would be extended at other stations on the Miyapur-Nagole stretch. “Already a couple of organisations, including a private company, have evinced interest in operating the bicycle service,” Reddy said. On the charges for using the cycling facility, he said modalities were still being finalised. There will be quite a few options for the users such as monthly passes, app-based, pay and use option etc., he added. Already, a few Metro Rail services in the country were operating bicycle sharing services. Apart from promoting, eco-friendly transportation and reducing traffic congestion, cycling helped one to stay fit.
