they just want to stop the opposing viewpoint. they'll use mockery, threats, pleas, everything they can, to make sure that they don't have to hear uncomfortable stuff.

I remember when Yogi Adityanath came up with the idea of romeo gangs (vigilante groups that claim to protect women), plenty of people in this db cheered that it was the need of the hour for a state like UP where women are constantly attacked.
