Although there are plenty of things central govt does better than the states (SHAR, BARC, Tax collection), the reverse is also true (Law and order, education, etc). Its time to change the way cental govt functions, so they won't poke their nose in issues that state govt controls.

for eg. tax collection leakage under VAT was huge, which is why GST showed a bump in ecnomic activity. states were not really serious about VAT, and were content with revenue from oil. More state stake in the center will improve state's systems of tax collections and can do away with GST, that transfers half the revenue collected to the center.

yeah central govt should have control only on few departments like defense, external affairs, taxation, aviation, railways, banking etc.. state should be able to pass laws/bills which is gonna benefit its own people..but for this to happen in India its gonna take very long time coz it needs constitutional amendment not one but few i guess..

If there's hung, and BJP/congress withdraws support, I agree its hard to sell the 3rd front again to the people.

there can always be reverse propaganda, but 3rd front has to have something unique to offer. Not just the same neoliberal bullshit as Congress/BJP. 

I guess its always hit and miss. 3rd front will likely not complete the 5yr term, but its still a good idea to keep these buggers in check. For one, if 3rd front agree on a common minimum program, and don't overpromise during campaigns, there's a good chance it'll start a new chapter in politics in India.

Its a huge political task though. Not something to be done on a whim. I hope leaders are motivated enough to kick that illiterate buffoon from PM's chair, even if educated people in India support him like sheep.

Indian constitution is clear. GST was not allowed according to it. Then it was amended.  And majority of this govt's schemes like Amrut, etc which are aggressively marketed as successes, toe a fine line on the constitutional front (like carrot/stick approach).

It may take a long time or not, depending on a charismatic leader or a group of leaders who share similar goals come together.

now the people mind set is if we vote to third front will it complete its term? no one wants to vote for a minority govt and end up voting again after couple of years..this is the biggest hurdle they need to cross as regional parties group (third front, united front..etc)

that's why they should come up with common minimum program, that has solid plans for every member of that group, and then sell it to the public. It can work.

also voting should be based on who's a good representative for your constituency. that people vote on who'll get into power itself is a defeat of democracy. 

ofcourse, in real, people do vote because they want 'their guy' in power. but they can be swayed by things like a good common minimum program that doesn't overpromise and appears reasonable and attractive to most people.
