Discover IT card is very  good for first timers. 

Chase freedom is good too, but they have been very strict for people without credit. Please dont take Secure card. Its not a bad card but there is no use with that card. 

With discover it you get 2% cash back the first year (you get 1% but they match it at end of the year). And with rotating categories 5%, you get up to $300 per year. First year that goes up to $600 with $-$ match.
