3 years is less time and more over never depend financially on anyone except On parents coming to girls  especially  when you are in break up situation 

you know why this guys try to help financially especially outsider, extending emotional support by talking is fine it's like counseling it's a freindship 

having freind who can help u financially is good but as a girl always be careful never take gifts or money from guy ,you can take those gifts only after getting confidence that he is right person to get married or brother bonding
