I met a tamil muslim guy when i was working in restaurant.....

He was working in gulf country..he wanted to come to us..took ship and he reached some south american country.. from there he started by road and walk across all the central american counties like nicaragua, ecquador and finally reached mexico.

Got caught at US- mexico border and stated he needs asylum as he's not safe in his home country. court lo case still running he said he had to pay 10k usd to get GC like that. This was like 2 years back
