You have no idea how strong a class structure would be. Caste is much more tame in comparison.

If you divide people by class, you are basically driving them straight into communist hands.

Why a topper of any competitive exam should loose his choice of course/seat to a reserved person based on caste rather on merit...atleast toppers should be spared ...

Nuvvu ela maatladuhunaav antey all upper caste people are rich by default and by birth anattu matlaaduthunaav....there great percentage of upper castes people struggling for education and  living... vaallu manchi schools lo chaduvukuntaaru and that's why they get succeeded antaaru..

Same logic reserved category lo unna rich kids and politicians, Business people  ki applicable kadhaaa...

if we divide by APL and BPL, most would want to be BPL.

But unlike what @uttermost thinks (if at all he does) its not going to be like people will take to communism and take away land from 10%

what will happen is that 10% will now capture 100% of land if they havent yet

then they will say we will provide/ throw rice curry and roti to the 90% and ask them to just shut their a$$es and not ask for anything more. then these 10% will continue to rule.

ofcourse the 90% can keep all college seats and govt jobs. the fees and taxes from 90% will anyhow be controlled by this 10%
