Sanskrit belongs to the Indo-European family of languages. It is one of the three ancient documented languages that likely arose from a common root language now referred to as the Proto-Indo-European language:[

Sanskrit is an Indian language to the extent that it was formalized by Indians - after Indus valley civilization. much later.

sanskrit may be the root of all Indian languages (or most), but its not even the oldest indian language.

belief system which is rooted in politics. wishing away Indus valley civilization which existed much prior to earliest record sanskrit works.

current research theorizes that Sanskrit was most likely brought in by invaders.

this area of research which was heavily dominated by linguistic researchers earlier, held two opposing theories. one, that entire proto-Indo-european languages were developed in India and spread into the west from there, and two, that the languages were brought into India (including Sanskrit) by outsiders.

genetic studies have managed to shed some light on this question and assert to a great degree which may be true(r). You should read David Reich's recent book 'who we are, and how we got here'.

it asserts two things on DNA.. 1. south indians have the same basic mix of south asians, and iranians 2. north indians have one extra ancestry, which is regularly referred to as Aryan (mostly from Syrian, west african region).
