Thanks guys, had a call with attorneys and they said the stuff similar to whats being discussed here.

- They suggested to go to CBP office and give a shot, it used to be much easier before but he is not sure due to govt shutdown 

- If that doesn't work, inka mexico border is the only option.

this is good to know.. passport expire meeda i94 di depend ayi untundi ani ipude telisindi. Usually by default visa expire daaka istadu ani anukunna (except f1)

Update: SF lo CBP office ki vellam, but door daggara security guard 5 secs lo bayataki way chupinchadu. i94 renewals govt shutdown ayyentha varaku apesaru ani cheppadu.

Finaly Update:

1. SF vallaki emailed with documents right after Govt open :

 - Got a call next day asking for reason. i94 expire ayindi ante, sorr if its not our mistake we cant help it. So 2 options chepparu. (1. Ask your attorneys to reapply, 2. Cross the Border and come back)

2. Booked a trip to Bahamas (Cruise) :

- Got Confirmation from SJ CBP office that i94 will not get renew stamp if its a cruise trip to Bahamas . So cancelled the trip (lucky ga got all the money back)

3. Called to San Jose CBP office:

- Item gaadu tagiladu, situation explain chestey. "So you are saying, your wife is staying in US illegally" ani antadu..  No, thats wrong. We both have valied H1bs ante. But i94 expired so that illegal antadu. Tried to explain, ardham kaledu ankunta, so its not my business to dig into the details ani cheppi Bahamas will not work as its still US waters. And crossing border should have a meaningfull exit and entry. You are trying to circumvent the process ani malli started. Arey CBP officers ey suggested ra babu chepthey  kontha sepati taruvatha he said he cant help.

4. Finally flew to mexico cancun for a week

- While back got stamp in dallas. No questions were asked.
