Polluted rivers can affect ecosystems.  It is obvious that Dragon Springs is responsible for pollution.

Dragon Springs is irresponsible. They care only for their own interests.

Attorney Richard Golden represented Dragon Springs Buddhist, Inc., in proposing a plan for substantial development of their 393-acre campus at the Deerpark Planning Board meeting recently. The board declared themselves lead agency in environmental review of the project, and a public scoping session was scheduled for May 9 to determine what potential environmental impacts to study.

Dragon Springs has more than a decade-long history of building without permits and incurring DEC violations.

A few days after the hearing, a brook coming from Dragon Springs carried a yellowish plume that the DEC is investigating, according to DEC correspondence with members of the Deerpark Rural Alliance.

Posted

The plume resembles those that appeared on the brook twice in January, which the DEC also investigated. DEC documents indicate that Dragon Springs failed to meet a remediation deadline, and Dragon Springs representatives were required to meet with DEC officials in mid-March.

The DEC traced the plumes to a construction site lacking required sediment and erosion controls, and fines could be as much as $37,500 per day. Golden expects them to be substantially less and says his client blames bad weather for the failure to meet DEC deadlines.

In 2014, when the township challenged Dragon Springs’ illegal construction in U. S. District Court , Dragon Springs agreed to build only with permits in the future.

In 2017, Dragon Springs built without permits, violated building codes, obstructed inspections, and defied stop work orders, as reported in town documents.

However, town attorney Glen Plotsky has expressed confidence that a new agreement between Dragon Springs and Deerpark, in which Dragon Springs pays for an independent inspector selected by the town, will be honored.
