Naidu should get assurance on Almatti from Deve Gowda

BJP State vice-president S. Vishnuvardhan Reddy demanded that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should make the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, who is campaigning on behalf of the TDP, to give an assurance not to increase the height of the Almatti dam which was detrimental to the interests of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.).

In a press release here on Monday, Mr. Vishnuvardhan Reddy said the farmers in Rayalaseema and Krishna delta suffered a lot due to the raising of the height of Almatti dam during the reign of Mr. Deve Gowda. His son Kumaraswamy raked up the issue again saying he would further raise the dam height.

Having called those who ‘deceived’ the people of A.P. for campaigning, Mr. Naidu should extract a commitment that the dam would be kept at the existing height and prove that he would not do things that harm the interests of the farmers of A.P., Mr.Reddy said.

సాక్షి బెంగళూరు/ యశవంతపుర (బెంగళూరు): అలనాటి నటి, ఇటీవల భర్తను కోల్పోయిన తెలుగింటి ఆడబిడ్డ సుమలతను ఎన్నికల్లో ఓడించేందుకు ఏపీ సీఎం చంద్రబాబు రంగంలోకి దిగారు. తన భర్త అంబరీష్‌ ఆశయ సాధన కోసం మండ్య లోక్‌సభ నియోజకవర్గం నుంచి స్వతంత్ర అభ్యర్థిగా సుమలత పోటీ చేస్తున్నారు. ఇలాంటి తరుణంలో ఆమెకు మద్దతుగా నిలబడడానికి బదులు ఓడించేందుకు చంద్రబాబు సమాయత్తమయ్యారు. మండ్యలో కర్ణాటక సీఎం కుమారస్వామి తనయుడు, జేడీఎస్‌ అభ్యర్థి నిఖిల్‌ తరఫున చంద్రబాబు ప్రచారానికి దిగనున్నారు. దీనిపై కన్నడనాట ఉన్న తెలుగువారి నుంచి విమర్శలు వ్యక్తం అవుతున్నాయి. ఇదేనా 40 ఏళ్ల చంద్రబాబు రాజకీయం అని సోషల్‌ మీడియా వేదికగా విమర్శలు గుప్పిస్తున్నారు. సోమవారం చంద్రబాబు నిఖిల్‌ తరఫున మండ్య సమీపంలోని పాండవపురంలో ప్రచారం చేశారు.

ఏపీ సీఎం చంద్రబాబు మండ్యకు వచ్చి జేడీఎస్‌ తరఫున ప్రచారం చేసినంత మాత్రాన ఆయన ప్రభావం ఏమాత్రం ఉండదని నటి, స్వతంత్ర అభ్యర్థి సుమలత స్పష్టం చేశారు. సోమవారం ఆమె మండ్య పరిధిలోని మంచనహళ్లిలో ప్రచారం సందర్భంగా మాట్లాడుతూ.. మండ్యలో తెలుగువారు లేనందున చంద్రబాబు జేడీఎస్‌ తరఫున ప్రచారం చేసినా ఆయన ప్రభావం ఏమీ ఉండదన్నారు.

కర్ణాటక వ్యాప్తంగా కాంగ్రెస్‌ – జేడీఎస్‌ కూటమి అభ్యర్థులను గెలిపించాలని ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌ సీఎం చంద్రబాబు ఓటర్లను కోరారు. జేడీఎస్‌ అధినేత దేవెగౌడ, సీఎం కుమారస్వామిలకు మద్దతుగా సోమవారం సాయంత్రం ఆయన మండ్య లోక్‌సభ నియోజకవర్గంలోని పాండవపురలో నిర్వహించిన ప్రచార సభలో మాట్లాడారు. దక్షిణ భారత్‌కు దేవెగౌడ పెద్దదిక్కు అని, దేశం కోసం ఆయన ప్రధాని పీఠం చేపట్టి.. ఆ పదవికే వన్నె తెచ్చారని పొగడ్తలు గుప్పించారు. తొలుత కన్నడలో కొన్ని పదాలు మాట్లాడుతూ ఓటర్లను ఆకట్టుకునేందుకు యత్నించారు. మండ్యలో దేవెగౌడ మనవడు, సీఎం కుమారస్వామి తనయుడు నిఖిల్‌ను, రాష్ట్ర వ్యాప్తంగా కూడా కాంగ్రెస్‌ – జేడీఎస్‌ అభ్యర్థులను గెలిపించాలని కోరారు. బీజేపీ పతనమే లక్ష్యంగా ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ పని చేయాలని, బీజేపీని గెలిపిస్తే దేశం నాశనం అవుతుందని, ప్రధాని మోదీ, అమిత్‌షా అవినీతిపరులని ధ్వజమెత్తారు. మోదీనే మరోసారి ప్రధాని కావాలంటూ శత్రు దేశమైన పాకిస్తాన్‌ ప్రధాని ఇమ్రాన్‌ఖాన్‌ బహిరంగంగా చేసిన వ్యాఖ్యలు చూస్తుంటే ఆ దేశంతో కలసి నీచ రాజకీయాలకు పాల్పడుతున్నారనే అనుమానం కలుగుతోందన్నారు. కేంద్రంలో బీజేపీయేతర ప్రభుత్వం అధికారంలోకి రావడం తథ్యమని, ఈ ఎన్నికల్లో మోదీ ఓడిపోయి గుజరాత్‌కు వెళ్లిపోవడం ఖాయమని జోస్యం చెప్పారు.

HYDERABAD: Almatti Dam in Karnataka is already half full. This spells a good news for Karnataka, and a worrisome one for Telangana. While this is not something uncommon in the months of July and August every year, what’s bothersome is Andhra Pradesh’s diverting of Godavari waters to Krishna Delta. However, Andhra Pradesh has overcome this problem by diverting Godavari waters to Krishna delta through Pattiseema project and the farmers there are raising nurseries in June itself.

 

 

Besides, according to the latest reports, the Andhra government has planned three barrages downstream Prakasam. One barrage with an estimated cost of `2,000 crore to store 7.2 tmcft has been planned near Vaikunthapuram, 23 km down the Prakasam. Below Vaikunthapuram barrage, another one is planned near Chodavaram to store 2.7 tmcft with an estimated cost of `900 crore. Below this, another barrage has been proposed at an estimated cost of `1,200 crore to store 4.5 tmcft.

But, the fate of TS farmers in Krishna basin has been hanging in balance. “Karnataka not releasing water downstream from Almatti has become a common phenomenon every year,” an official pointed out. Though Telangana demanded 45 tmcft share upstream Nagarjuna Sagar for Telangana in lieu of AP’s 45 tmcft diversion of Godavari water to Prakasam barrage, the matter is pending with the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal.

 

Following this, the State has asked Centre to consider the release of water in Krishna on pro rata basis, which again requires the Tribunal’s nod. At present, Karnataka is not releasing water till its quota of share in Krishna is filled. If pro rata basis is applied, the available water would be released to all the States.

Fishermen out of work due to floods

Bhadrachalam: Due to flooding of Godavari river, construction of new bridge at Bhadrachalam has been stalled. Also, bathing ghats are inundated. Sub-collector Bhavesh Mishra said administration has taken all steps to face floods and arrangements were being made to evacuate people from low-lying areas. He said: “Shelters have been set up in flood-affected places.” Between Wazeedu and Kunavaram, several fishermen have lost their means of livelihood due to floods

Rains bring cheer to Mahbubnagar farmers

Mahbubnagar: The low depression zone that formed over Bay of Bengal turned out to be a blessing in disguise for farmers of Mahbubnagar. The district has been witnessing rains since last four days. This has brought smiles on faces of the farmers, who have started tiling their fields. The rains have also resulted in huge inflows of water at Jurala reservoir. Tanks, check dams, small streams and subsidiaries are brimming with water
