Though the move is yet another dig on capitalcity Amaravati, making Vizag as IT capital of the state is likely to reap rich dividends to the state’s economy.Industries and IT minister Mekapati Gautham Reddy said the previous TDP regime had promoted Amaravati as IT hub despite knowing that it is a wrong destination. “We have decided to promote Vizag as the destination for setting up IT industries. We are hopeful of attracting some big-ticket investments to Vizag in the IT sector,” he said while addressing a national trade board meeting in New Delhi on Thursday. The minister added that neighbouring states benefitted due to AP showcasing a non-suitable location, Amaravati, for attracting investments in IT sector by the previous regime. He said the YSRC government would go for an aggressive campaign to attract IT industries to Vizag. He urged Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal to take advantage from the global economic slowdown by offering concessions in GST to foreign investments. He said big industries were moving out of the US and China due to the trade war between them and India should take advantage of the situation. Reddy further said there was big scope to create about 5 lakh jobs in electronics and cell phone assembling units in the state if proper tax concessions were offered. Noting that marine exports too were not going along expected lines due to logistic troubles, Reddy demanded the setting up of a aqua production quality certification centre in the state. “We request you to set up the centre either in Visakhapatnam or Kakinada to promote marine exports,” he urged Goyal. He also asked the Centre to discuss trade and industry issues with the states at least once in three months. Reddy said AP stood third in development of logistics in the country and they were planning to become number one in the next three years. “The Centre should extend its cooperation in creation of plug-and-play system for industries, skill development and development of MSME clusters in AP,” he said.
