Riding two-wheeler with sandals, flip-flops illegal: How much fine you’ll need to pay

The amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act has led to stricter implementation of traffic rules across India. Since September 1st, several cases of extravagant fines being imposed on road users have started to come to light.

If you are found riding a two-wheeler with gears wearing flip-flops or sandals, you will be liable to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. Yes, you heard it right. Though this rule is not new and existed even before the amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act came into play, but is now being implemented strictly by traffic police personnel. The reason behind this rule is that flip-flops or similar footwear might create difficulty in changing gears or could even result in loss of grip while the vehicle is coming to a halt, resulting in a slip. Riding a two-wheeler with proper gear is required for ensuring one's safety. However, imposing this rule in rural areas is going to be slightly difficult.

That is good rule man , driving car with flip flops is also dangerous, there is a chance the flip flop can interfere with breaking and acceleration that is the reason they applied this rule only for gear bikes not to bikes Iike activa

same people question govt saying govt didnt come with rules that created social order, when it comes still blame govt

issue here is police will be using these fines to make more money from public, govt will end up taking the blame

should have come after police reforms, body cams for traffic police should solve, technology is anyway cheap now with jio sim

Accident researchers say their main concern is that flimsy flip-flops make it more difficult to brake effectively. Here’s why:

1. It takes longer to slow your car down in flip-flops. Overall deceleration is up to 0.13 seconds slower which is the equivalent of travelling a further 3.5m at 60mph. That can be the difference between a near miss and a crash!
