Centre Won't Interfere In Capital Shift ?

At a time when the farmers of Amaravati capital region have been looking up to the Centre to intervene and stop the proposed shifting of administrative capital to Visakhapatnam, here comes a news from BJP national spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao.

GVL, who is also a Rajya Sabha member, told media persons in Vijayawada on Monday that there was no way the Central government would intervene in the capital shift or three capitals formation issue.

“The location of capital city is purely a state subject and the Centre does not have any say in the same. At the most, it will give suggestions to the state government, if it is asked to do so. Otherwise, it is the state government’s prerogative to have the capital wherever it wants,” the BJP spokesperson said.

Interestingly, GVL also made it clear that whatever he said would reflect the party’s policy decision.

“Whatever other BJP leaders say is only their personal opinion but not the party’s view point,” he asserted.

It may be mentioned that for the last few days, the BJP leaders have been speaking in contradictory tones on the capital issue.

While BJP state president Kanna Lakshminarayana is vehemently opposing the shifting of executive capital from Amaravati but supporting location of high court at Kurnool, BJP MP and former union minister Sujana Chowdary has been virtually speaking in a threatening tone.

Other BJP leaders like T G Venkatesh, Vishnuvardhan Reddy and Purandeshwari have been airing different views on the capital.
