Agra registers 8 COVID-19 deaths, 348 confirmed cases

After a 54-year-old businessman died of corona virus in Agra, the toll in the city was at eight. With seven more people testing positive for the novel corona virus, the total number of infection cases in the city climbed to 348, a health official said on Saturday.

As many as 32 people have been cured and discharged so far, the official added.

Average doubling rate at 9.1 days, says health ministry

The average doubling rate of COVID-19 cases in the country is 9.1 days as of now and from Friday 8 am to Saturday 8 am, India recorded a six-per cent growth in new cases, which is the lowest daily growth rate recorded since the country crossed 100 cases, PTI quotes the health ministry as saying.The 13th meeting of the high-level Group of Ministers (GoM) on COVID-19 was held under the chair personship of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Saturday. "The GoM was apprised that as of now, the death rate is around 3.1 per cent while the recovery rate is more than 20 per cent, which is comparatively better than most of the countries and may be taken as a positive effect of the lockdown in the country, along with the cluster management and containment strategy," it said.

1,778 infections detected in Uttar Prdaesh till date

A total of 1,778 COVID19 positive cases have been reported in Uttar Pradesh so far, out of which 1504 are active cases. 248 people have been cured/discharged and 26 people have died due to the disease, ANI quotes a health official as saying.

27 new cases recorded in Rajasthan

Rajasthan reported 27 new cases, taking the total in the state to 2,061, ANI quotes the state health department as saying. 33 persons have succumbed to the disease in the state till date and 198 persons have been discharged after recovery.

Shops in Gujarat allowed to open from Sunday

Starting Sunday, all the shops in Gujarat, except those located in COVID-19 containment zones, malls and shopping complexes, will be allowed to open,
PTI quotes Secretary to chief minister, Ashwani Kumar, as saying. The state government also allowed IT and ITeS (IT enabled services) companies to start their operations from Sunday with 50 per cent of staff capacity, provided they are located outside the containment zone, the official said.

Count in Karnataka reaches 500

26 new cases have been confirmed in Karnataka from in th elast 24 hours, according to a bulletin issued by the state health department at 5 pm. According to the bulletin, total positive cases in the state stand at 500 which includes 18 deaths and 158 discharges. Out of remaining 324 cases, 317 COVID-19 positive patients (including a pregnant woman) are in isolation at designated hospitals are stable and seven are in ICU.

A total of 3,125 samples have been tested in the past 24 hours.

Kerala reports seven new cases

Kerala on Saturday reported seven new cases, reports quote Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as saying.Three of the new cases are from Kottayam, three are from Kollam while one is from Kannur. One of the 3 new coronavirus patients in Kollam is a female health worker. Seven persons also recovered from the state, he said.

So far 457 cases have been reported in the state and 116 of these are active cases, he said.

66 new cases, 94 recoveries in Tamil Nadu today

Tamil Nadu on Saturday recorded 66 positive case taking the state total to 1,821. Of these, a total of 960 persons have been cured and discharged till date and 94 recovered today. One person died due to the disease on Saturday taking the death count due COVID-19 to 23.

Confirmed cases in India rise to 24,942

According to the 5 pm update issued by the Union health ministry, total corona virus cases in the country rose to 24,942 including 18,953 active cases, 5, 210 patients who were cured/discharged or migrated and 779 deaths.

Case count in Andhra Pradesh reaches 1,016 as cops, doctors test positive

Frontline workers engaged in the battle against the spread of COVID-19 including doctors were among the fresh cases of the virus reported from Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, where overall number crossed the 1,000-mark, reports PTI.Two fatalities were reported, taking the toll to 31.  AP's overall positive cases of coronavirus stood at 1,01 on Saturday. In Kurnool, two doctors working in the government general hospital and a police sub-inspector (SI) in Vijayawada city tested positive for the deadly virus, official sources said.  Further, in Vijayawada, a police sub-inspector and 60 personnel were placed under quarantine.

 A scare was triggered in the State Covid Command Control Centre in Vijayawada after a biomedical engineer working there tested positive on Friday.

Three women test positive for COVID-19 in Aurangabad

Three women from a family tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district on Saturday, taking the tally of cases to 47 in the region, PTI quotes an official as saying. Of the 47 patients, 22 have recovered from the infection and five have succumbed to it, the official said. At present, 18 patients were undergoing treatment at the COVID-19 (Civil) hospital, while two were recuperating at the Government Medical College and Hospital, civil hospital health officer Dr Pradeep Kulkarni said in a release.

Khordha district in Odisha accounts for 46 of state's 96 cases, says health department

According to latest figures released by the Odisha health department, the state has reported 94 confirmed cases so far, of which 60 are active while 33 have recovered from the virus  while one person has died so far.

Khordha district, which also reported, the state's only fatality from the novel coronavirus, is the worst-affected, accounting for 46 of the states 94 cases. There are 23 active cases in the district right now. Bhadrak, Jajpur and Balasore districts have reported 16, 12 and 10 cases, respectively.
