Most Macs last long. I bought a retina Mac in 2012 for 2100$. Still works great. But battery became weak.

If you don't care about weight look for Macbook pro. If you like sleek, look for Macbook air. Pro is better than air IMO

I never got anything mac before, computer, laptop or phone. So, not really sure where to start.
