katharnak Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 TRS and pro telengna sympathizers are right to oppose the alleged concentration of power in the hands of Andhra and Rayalaseema leaders. But they have to realize that in the area of the judiciary the power imbalance if any is in favour of the Telengana region. As the proof submitted to Dr Geeta Reddy shows the Telengana region has a better representation in the areas that matter in the judiciary than the other two regions. Ignoring that proof can be an act of immaturity that will lower the credibility of the agitators. More importantly the parties that want a separate state also have to realize that A P faces a series of problems that can’t be addressed simply by getting government out of the way. The social fabric in the state is fraying. Human capital is being squandered. Society is segmenting on sub-regional differences. The labour markets are underutilized. Wages are lagging. Inequality is increasing. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are surging ahead at A P’s expense. Not all of these challenges can be addressed by the magical wand of separatist agenda. What is called for is an united and concerted effort to kick start the growth engine in the state.
