I had to spend ~10k of a grant, wasn't able to spend it because of COVID downtime. If I don't spend it in the last academic year, it will go back to the funding agency. So, I just bought expensive electronics to spend it.

Apple stopped including a 3$ mass produced charger and 2$ earphones in their new phones . 

They will sell the charger at 20$ and cables at 20$ each . 

They are profitting almost 20$(assuming only half buy) off  each phone in the name of environment .

No company can pull off such a stunt and not receive blowback but apple does this consistently and sells more each time
