Bro one of frnd told if we sell stock for a loss with in a month still that is consider as profit?

for example

bought stock for 100 , sold for 90 and bought at 110 . In this case loss is 10 dollars? Or will be treated as profit

the reason I’m asking is my friend told in 2021 he sold for all losses but Robinhood tax showing he gained 2k

can you help me what I’m missing logic that related sell , buy in a month

Selling for loss and buying back within one month for greater price is called washsale.

per my limited knowledge, i don’t think they would consider your capital loss as capital gain. your friend might be mistaken. You just cannot claim that as a loss while you file taxes. But, that loss would be added to the average cost of the stock when you buy the same stock again within 30/31 day time period.

Wash sale applies when you sell second time bought stock at 112 .. in this case your profit $2 .. so your previous loss doesn’t count for taxes
