India's annual budget is $60 billion USD or more than 4 lak crores. And also a great deal of forex is wasted on it as most arms are imported. India imports even rifles from a tiny country like Dubai.

But why all this expense - the only real problem india has is kashmir where india is dutybound to hold a referendum but it wont. Instead it prefers killing the people there and sacrificing indian soldiers. There is another border problem with china which is mostly a british colonial border issue india can resolve with give and take. I mean WTF is pangong lake - most indians dont even dream of such places leave alone talk about them. why should people die for it and why cant india solve it through talks.

IN last 70 years india could not solve kashmir problem politically or militarily but throws billions and billions of our money for its empire like ego of occupying lands without consent of people there. Not to mention thsouands of indian soliders it sacrificed.

And what is worse is  we in andhra/tg  does not have any security challenges . we are surronded by tamil nadu, kar, maha - all peaceful societiees. But our forex and taxes are extracted every year to defend india's colonial borders. sad.

Assuming u had no ulterior motive behind your post, here is the answer : Arms race ante, manam unna geo location atlantidhi. There is no way to avoid . Only thing we can do is achieving self sufficiency in manufacturing atleast a large percentage of these weapons systems.
