The Jagan Vs Nimmagadda battle seems to have come to a logical ending with the Supreme Court giving green signal for holding the panchayat polls in Andhra Pradesh.

A two-judge bench, comprising Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Hrishikesh Rai, made some sensational remarks during the hearing of the special leave petition filed by the state government.

They said that the employees unions were being anti-Constitutional by not cooperating with the State Election Commission after it had released the schedule for panchayat polls.

Are elections not being held in any place in the country, the judges asked.

Elections are an integral part of the democratic set up, the bench said and reminded that the same employees wanted elections to be held when Covid-19 was at peak.

The court also faulted the authorities for casting aspersions on the SEC with ulterior motives. It also reminded that elections were being postponed in Andhra Pradesh all the time.
