If you have the VLC app then you can make a playlist of the network URL's

or use any remote file explorers to open the file

My one-time dynamic setup : 

I use raspberry pi for NAS. In fire TV, I use kodi to play anything and everything from NAS.

My Pi also acts as a always ON torrent box. So it stays ON all the time, connected via LAN to router. New HD movie torrents laptop / mobile browser lo deniki add cheseyyochu. They will get downloaded to above NAS config directly (= accessed by fire tv). Be careful with torrenting in US, I use it only for telugu / hindi. For english, i turn ON VPN. Can also view photos (mobile to tv sync is too laggy).

every time you need movies to be copied to this usb, you have unplug it from fire tv and plug it to laptop / desktop and plug it back to fire tv (too lazy for this)
