Directed by Martin Scorsese, this movie is about the life of 14th Dalai lama, who celebrated his birthday yesterday(6th July).

after the death of 13th Dalai Lama, there begins a search for the identification of his successor(the 14th Dalai Lama). Some disciples of Buddhism called 'Lamas' were entrusted with this. they start searching based on some signs and visions that guided them.

in 1935 July 6, a child is born in the tibetan-chinese border to a farmer couple. on the morning when he was born, a pair of crows came to nest on the roof of their house and they stayed there. the same thing happened with the crows nesting at the birth of other Dalai lamas as well. 

the Lamas who are on the search, came to know of this baby boy from several omens when the boy was 2 years old and they felt he was a promising candidate - an absolute reincarnation of the 13th Dalai lama

in 1939 the child is put to a test. All the objects that belong to the 13th Dalai Lama along with other objects have been placed infront of him. the child correctly selects only the objects belonging to the 13th Dalai lama and rejects all the other objects. He was then publicly declared as a 14th Dalai Lama.

The Chinese govt claimed that Tibet is part of China and it wanted to re incorporate it. Dalai Lama then wrote letters to UN, US, UK and India asking for help. But no one helps.

in 1959 when China invaded Tibet, he was fled to India. He plans to go back to Tibet some day in the future

 

Even before the release of this film Chinese objected its release. The Chinese banned the Disney pictures that produced this film. later the Disney gave an apology telling that the release of the film is a stupid mistake.
