They have a secular constitution. They don't even have the whole burkha law, they prohibit forcibly wearing head covering.  Not as extreme as Saudi atleast. Plus they allow their women to do exposing and all in movies. I saw lot of Turkish movies they are pretty forward.

Edhedho cheptunnav. Turkey is just facing cultural backlash from its hinterlands which didn't sign up for the forced secularisation and modernization under Ataturk.

 Erdogan is not an islamic fundamentalist, but he needs fundamentalist support to be in power since he's corrupt. 

Turkey is going to get worse, but it's situation sorta mirrors India than any other nation.
