Turkey is a perfect country to demonstrate that unwanted infrastructure is huge scam and a drain on the economy

Their currency fell off a cliff , 20% inflation for several years , soaring debt , falling wages , unemployment crisis , etc

The only people benefitting fromt his are real estate firms owned by Erdogan's party members

Why do they need such a massive airport when their economy is in tatters

The answer is real estate and contracts . Most of the land around the airport is owned by Erdogan's party members and all the contracts are given to party members

Although a new airport made some sense since turkey is looking to be a tourist and airline hub like Dubai but the Turkish economy couldn't afford to finance such white elephants until they become sustainable

Funny thing is the company owning this airport IGA is already on the verge of bankruptcy with several delayed annual fee payments

airport konchem better emo massive statues kante…

The statue is actually more financially viable than this. 15 bil$  airport with  16% interest rate is 2.4 bil$ interest an year

And airports require huge maintenance expenditure while statues don't

I mean both are bad but one is much bigger white elephant than other

I agree 15 billion $ is foolishness…

but infra like airports generate income and job business opportunities…compared to statues income or maintenance…

I believe giant statue also comes under infrastructure , useless but still Infra.

Financial viability lekunda entha infrastructure Kattina waste , for example look at Chinese infrastructure in Sri Lanka .

THe income and jobs generated don't even cover interest payments in unviable projects

Sri Lanka built so much Infrastructure in last four years  than  30 years combined  before but the country is struggling for food items , debt payments are piling up , inflation , unemployment are at all time highs .

Who benefited from the infra projects? The Rajapaksa family settled in California and china which gets to purchase Sri Lanka projects at cheap price
